Orchid Events - Keiki Club for Beginners
The Keiki Club is for our beginner orchid growers. The meeting locations change depending on the time of year. This year we're trying a new format where we double up during the spring months and go on vacation during the summer.
We meet at a members home so you can see how others grow their orchids. The Keiki Club allows us to talk about orchids in an informal environment.
While designed to meet the needs of our beginner growers, the Keiki Club meetings are enjoyed by all members. Visitors and guests are always welcome!

Topic 1: Staking Your Orchids

Topic 1: A Winterizable Shade Structure
Moderator: Janis Croft
A traditional greenhouse is great for the winter cold months, but it can become an oven during the summer heat. Janis will show you how she built her shade house which is open to the elements during the growing season and closes with a retractable curtain when it's cold.
Topic 2: Designing a Rain Barrel System
Moderator: Linda Stewart
Our well and tap water contains lots of dissolved salts that can build up around your orchid's roots. You can correct this problem by collecting rain water to water and flush your orchids. Linda Stewart will show you how.

March 12 - Potting Mixes and Repotting Orchids
Many of your orchids are sending out new roots, this is the best time to move them to a new home. We'll talk about repotting using different potting mixes as opposed to how to grow your orchids au naturale. There may be some orchid divisions for you to mount and or pot up (one to a customer), bring a 4 and 6 in clay pot, just in case. To cover the cost of supplies, there will be a $5 charge. If you have more than 1 or 2 of your own plants that need repotting, please bring them to the Ace repotting clinic.
