Courtney talked about the concepts hybridizers employ when they make hybrids, using some of his own hybrids as examples. Each species imparts certain traits such as color, form or size to its progeny and hybridizers strive to combine these traits to improve on Mother Nature.

We have the good vinyl plant tags that you can write on either side with in pencil, and they won't fade or crack. Sold in bundles of 30 for $5 at the meetings.
Coarse mix is a mixture of clay pebbles, large Orchiata bark, sponge rok and charcoal. It is a freely draining mix that is great for cattleyas and dendrobiums, $5 for a gallon bag. We also have a soilless mixture for phalaenopsis. This is a more water retentive mix that is half sponge rock and half Pro-Mix HP, $3 for a gallon bag or two for $5. Email us
